Presidents Message
Bill Fly, CCP
Hello. I am Bill Fly, CCP, your new ICCP President. I have been certified and involved with certification of IT professionals for over forty years. I originally passed the Certificate in Data Processing (CDP) in 1970 from the Data Processing Management Association (DPMA), before the ICCP was founded. From 1970 - 1973, I served on the DPMA Registered Business Programmer (RBP) Exam Committee. When the ICCP was formed in 1973, we suggested shelving the RBP until the ICCP could get the organization and the CDP organized. In April, 1976, I met Joyce Currie Little, our immediate Past President, at the inaugural meeting to revive the RBP, but instead recommended and created the Certificate in Computer Programming (original CCP) in three flavors, Business, Scientific, and System. In 1980 and 1981, I chaired the CCP Certification Council, the volunteer team for exam development of all the ICCP examinations for certification.
During the 1980's, I served as president of the Association of the ICCP, an organization of the certificate holders, which during the 1990's was merged and the members became members of the ICCP. Originally, the AICCP held two seats on the ICCP Board of Directors, but when the certificate holders became members of the ICCP they were granted three seats on the ICCP Board, each having two votes. I am a lifetime member of the ICCP.
In 2007, I became one of AITP's two representatives to the ICCP Board. In 2009 and 2010, I served as secretary of the ICCP, and I am fortunate to serve as you ICCP president for 2011 and 2012. This is a very challenging role, as the ICCP is involved in many new projects, such as Spanish and Portuguese translations of the CCP exams for Central and South America, expanding affiliates around the world, adding another constituent society to the Board, upgrading our Web presence, and completing the transformation of our assessment examination to the IS2010 Curriculum.
As always, we need certificate holders to volunteer to serve on one of our ten standing committees: Office Administration/Technology, By-Laws, Admissions and Partnerships, Examinations, Education and Training, Marketing and Public Information, New Projects, Recertification, Membership Services, or Budget and Finance. If you are interested in volunteering for one of these committees, send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Please, include ICCP at the beginning of the subject line, so I can easily recognize it. I look forward to hearing from some of you.
