Presidents Message
Bill Fly, CCP
The ICCP continues to deliver service to professionals in industry at a high quality. The certification council has been busy developing new exams and updating exams - the testbank is in excellent shape and I want to thank them on behalf of the board for such stellar voluntary work...thanks to the efforts of our wonderful volunteers.
A great many thanks to our volunteers, especially Joe Albers, CCP, in getting the new website published. It has been a two year effort to make sure we could capture existing business practices and improve on our image.
The ICCP Board continues to work on expanding into new markets and business relationships in India, Argentina, Brazil, UK, Australia, and China. Business partners continue to offer courses and deliver ICCP exams in Poland, UK, Byelorussia, Turkey, and Norway. In the USA we are constantly delivering examinations across the country.
Certification Council Meeting
John Whitehouse, Jr., PhD, CCP, Director of Certification
The Certification Council met in Quebec City on July 14-17. Three groups worked on different examinations:
- Information Systems Core 2011
- Data Governance and Stewardship
- IS Model Curriculum examinations for Universities and Colleges
The meeting was highly successful and productive. People worked diligently to get the work done. The groups were able to work well together with some natural groups forming.
One guest from India, Darpan Jain, attended the meetings at his own expense as a way to explore the ICCP examinations and work on developing a relationship with the ICCP to include more Universities from India in the IS Model Curriculum outcomes assessment process. He also wanted to invite faculty from the USA to India for presentations to the 36 universities that he currently works with.
Psychometric Review - the ICCP has proceeded to contract Thomas M. Haladyna a well known and leading author in assessment of credentialing exams. He will be reviewing our exam development processes and psychometric performances of our exams. Our previous external psychometric assessment was performed by Dr. Patrick Jones about 5 years ago, after John Whitehouse, Kewal Dhariwal and Paul Kleine performed an internal psychometric assessment of all ICCP exams.
Fellows of the Institute
Joyce Currie Little CDP, CCP, PhD past President of ICCP
So, what does it mean to be a "Fellow" of the ICCP?? We have eight persons who have been so honored: named ICCP Fellow and given an "honorary membership." You'll find the roster of Fellows here.
You have most likely heard of the song "So, He's a Jolly Good Fellow." And, you may have friends in mind when you think of the movie "Good Fellas?" (Or, maybe those are not like your friends?) Since the very first Fellow of the ICCP was a woman, maybe the song should be "So, She's a Jolly Good Fellow!" I'm certain though that you, our holders, would think of a prestigious group when you think of an "ICCP Fellow," and yet you might not have seen their names in the public press at all. There's honor in being named an ACM Fellow, an AITP EDSIG Fellow, any type of Fellow, right? So, what does one have to do to earn the right of becoming an ICCP Fellow?
The ICCP Bylaws give this explanation in Section 2.2.3.3 Individual Fellow Members:
Individuals who have been honored with the title of "Fellow" shall become permanent lifetime members of the Institute. The honorary title of Fellow shall be granted upon vote of the Board of Directors, by bestowal for no fee to an individual who has been actively involved in the support of the overall goals of the Institute. Candidates for "Fellow" need not be members of ICCP.
So they must have been "actively involved in the support of the overall goals of the Institute." When we examine the list of our Honorary Members, the ICCP Fellows, it means they actively supported the professionalism of the workforce of the computing and information technology industry, by means of the certification programs of the ICCP.
Many of the fellows have served some time as ICCP Directors, although that is not a requirement. As we approach the year 2013, the 40th anniversary of the creation of the ICCP, the Board of Directors would like to celebrate our last decade of work by naming one or more additional Fellows. Board members will be reviewing the procedures and criteria for the Fellow designation, and will be sending updated information, along with a schedule to allow us to select new Fellows in time to have the honor bestowed in 2013 at one of the Board meetings celebrating our 40th anniversary. New Website
ICCP Technology Committee
The New ICCP Website has taken a long time to be designed, redesigned and populated. It has taken a lot of volunteer time and we should commend Joe Albers, CCP for his stellar efforts in this regard. There were many other volunteers who assisted as well as ICCP staff - our thanks go out to them all.
Look for other features in the future as we move towards more friendly web-operations for new applicants, members and recertification renewals.
